I was born and raised in Florence, Italy where I received a scientific education, and it is in the field of computer science that I've made my career after a few years as a leather artisan, beading jeweler and pipe organ restorer.
With a "how does it work?", "let's try it" and "I can do it" personality, I have for the past 18+ years channeled my creativity into software programming and used my craftsmen ship in the tasks of: being a mother, inventing presents for friends and relatives, contributing to silent auctions, children's activities and toys, family photos and attending ceramic classes with Barbara Stevenson of Sweet Spirit Ceramics in San Rafael.
As my home got overrun with the byproducts of my experimentation I've been encouraged to branch out and since the early 21st century - doesn't it sound good? - I've dedicated more and more of my time to the production of arts and crafts for public consumption finding support, recognition and personal satisfaction.
My work ranges from photography to functional objects with a twist. Any material and medium is fine, with a preference for hardware and construction supplies. I love to combine disparate forms and media, probably the result of a lifelong usage of recycled material and home made solutions to domestic projects.
The style is simple and spare; every object is built uniquely as a well thought-out gift. An element of surprise is often present in my production which includes:
metal mesh origami baskets
candid shot photography
sand paper and scratch pad boxes
LP and CD recycled art work
plumbing/electrical fittings and test tube bud vases
garden art - bird feeders and windchimes
beaded and metal knitted jewerly
clay work
I'm still working as a 'software developer', a title and profession that I cherish as a perennial puzzle solving activity. In my spare time I love to eat chocolate, cook for friends and family, do some gardening, travel, walk, pet my cat and toy with new ideas and media. I dream of a life that could accomodate a dog, a cross country trip, owning a scooter. Not necessarely in this order. I also hope one day to wear rhinestone glasses and drive a mint green cadillac: or what did I come to America for? And then I'm getting to an age where it won't be deamed a stretch of the imagination.
